After spending a few days brainstorming different 20% Project ideas and receiving feedback from my colleagues, I have officially decided to pursue the skill of crocheting! Like I mentioned in my brainstorming post, I have seemed to find myself in the season of life where all of my friends are getting married and having babies. |
In knowing this phase of life was upon me, I have always wanted to learn how to crochet so that I could create handmade products to give to my friends and their future little ones. Although learning how to paint is something that initially sparked my interest, I wanted my 20% Project to create a space for me to serve those around me. Painting is fun, but I can see it being more inwardly therapeutic than outwardly beneficial.
Whether it be a blanket or beanie, I think that learning this new skill will give me the opportunity to meet the needs of my small community. It may not be the most exciting 20% Project to follow, but I feel peace in knowing that it is something that will result in someone else's ultimate joy and comfort.
With that being said, I have already made a trip to Joann's to purchase my materials and set up my first crocheting lesson with a friend! More blog posts to come!
Also, one of my inquiry questions was about the difference between knitting and crocheting. Although I still do not know the difference, I do know that the lady at Joanns was slightly offended by my question.
Pieces of the project:
Play: I will be playing with different types of yarn, colors of yarn, and patterns in the beginning stages of crocheting.
Knowledge: I will have to do some research in order to find different resources to help me learn how to crochet and practice different patterns. I will learn from internet sources as well as members in my close community to help me with this new skill.
Making: The ultimate goal of my finished product is to make a beanie for a baby. However, I also want to extend this past this 20Time Project to being able to crochet larger things such as blankets or more creative things such as headbands.
