Like many of my colleagues, I was slightly skeptical of the concept of the 20% project. Although it felt like such a fun idea, it did seem too realistic. With the common core and district standards/pacing guides, often it feels like teachers are locked in with a specific timeline of what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. However, Kevin Brookhouser certainly made it clear that this project does not counteract what the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are trying to accomplish. The heart behind any content standard is that students are college and career ready, knowing how to think critically and creatively. Now, with the CCSS, there is a new emphasis on collaboration in order to achieve the agreed upon learning goals. With this in mind, the 20time Project seems to come along side those goals quite nicely. |
Therefore, I have brainstormed a few ideas accompanied with explanations and inquiry questions that revolve around being creative.
Painting a LandscapeI am surrounded by creative, talented people. I have a friend who even established The Backyard Collective, a group of men and women who get together and let their creativeness explode. Some of them write music, some of them paint on wood, some of them make their own makeup, and all of them are phenomenal artists in their own way. |
1. What type of paint is best for this task?
2. Where is the best place to even buy this stuff? (And, is there a coupon please? I don't have any money...)
3. What is the best thing to paint on?
4. Are there any specific techniques to getting the desired result? (I'm sure there is, but I definitely have no idea).
5. Is there anyone I know that can teach me there ways? (My very own Yoda or Mr. Miyagi)
6. Is there any YouTube videos or Pinterest Boards that I can follow that have painting tips and tricks?
7. How do you correctly mix colors?
8. Does it even matter what type of brush I buy? If so, which one should I purchase?
9. How many different colors should I buy? Is like a "the more the merrier" type of thing or a "less is more" type of thing?
10. How can I make this a communal activity so that it doesn't add to my "list of things that I do alone"?
11. Can I make some money off of this? (just kidding...)
Crocheting A BeanieFor YEARS (it's seemed) I have wanted to learn how to crochet. Right before this program started, a good friend of mine offered to have a weekly crochet night where she would teach me the tricks of the trade. Unfortunately, once I got into this program, that idea got put on the back burner. Now, with this 20%Project, I think there is a new hope! In my family alone, there are going to |
1. Is Becca's offer still up to teach me her crocheting ways?
2. What is the difference between crocheting and knitting? I feel bad even asking that because I know those two subcultures are completely different.
3. What supplies do I need in order to accomplish this task?
4. Is it called yarn or string???
5. Is there a special technique to crocheting? I am not quite sure how the yarn even comes together to create anything.
6. Is there any specific trick to crocheting a beanie over anything else?
7. Are there any YouTube videos or Pinterest boards that I can access in order to help me with this task.
8. Where is the best place to buy all of the supplies? (Is there a coupon available please? I still don't have any money....maybe Becca will sponsor me.)
9. How can I make this a communal activity?
10. Is there a specific type of a yarn that is better than others? Or needles? Are they called needles?
11. How long does it take to actually make a beanie?
